Microwave Tea Drying Experiment
The raw materials used in this experiment were provided by our clients, an Indonesian tea plantation company and tea producer. The client also sent a bag of ready-made tea as an experiment comparison object.
Green tea, initial moisture content is about 7%. At the request of the client, we carried out three series of experiments.
1. Belt speed: 3 Hz
Heat-up time: 10 mins 13 secs
Original material: 1.51kg
Final material: 1.424kg
Final humidity: 2.13%
2. Belt speed: 5 Hz
Heat-up time: 4 mins 42 secs
Original material: 0.595kg
Final material: 0.564kg
Final humidity: 2.6%
3. Belt speed: 10 Hz
Heat-up time: 1 mins 42 secs
Original material: 0.635kg
Final material: 0.605kg
Final humidity: 3.1%
The experiment uses microwave equipment with a power of 20 kw.
For each experiment, we set the speed of the conveyor and record the weight of the raw material before and after drying, and then we brew it with boiling water. And during the experiment, we observe the operating conditions of raw materials in the microwave chamber in real time through an LCD monitor.
In the photo on the left is tea after microwave drying, on the right is the client's roasted tea. It can be seen that the color of the client's tea is darker, and the color of the tea after drying with our equipment does not change.
Comparison after brewing tea:
Since the brewing time of the tea is different each time, color variations may change. But the taste is very aromatic.
In general, microwave drying differs from traditional roasting in its smoky flavor and is lighter in color than roasted tea. The microwave heating temperature is related to the irradiation time of the raw material surface. The longer the time, the higher the temperature.
In the experiment with a conveyor speed of 5-10 Hz, the drying effect is better. When the conveyor speed is too low and the raw material is unevenly distributed, the raw material burns easily. In the experiment, when the conveyor speed was 3 Hz, some materials were burnt.
We thank our clients for their trust and support. If you are interested in our equipment or would like to send your products for experimentation, be sure to contact us and we will be happy to help you.
